Yuusha ni Narenakatta Ore wa Shibushibu Shuushoku wo Ketsui Shimashita. Episode 1 Anime Review

Do you like boobs and panty shots? Well, this is the show for you! Our main protagonist was slated to become a hero and was just about to graduate from hero school when the announcement came that the demon lord had been defeated. And so, he trudges back to a life of mediocrity, becoming a lowly peon in an appliance store. One day, an resume comes in – a child of the demon lord. She has no job, no house and also no father now, and has to learn to survive on her own. Comedy ensues as a demon gets used to the human world.

While there’s really nothing that special about the anime, it was still quite entertaining to watch. The main protagonist isn’t annoying like so many harem male characters, and you kind of feel bad for the situation he landed up in. I can empathise with making grand plans for your life and having them all go to waste because of something beyond your control.

And our hero is in such a dilemma. On the hand, the whole point of a hero was to kill the demon lord, so he should be happy that it’s done, right? But… he wasn’t the one to do it, and so he’s out of a job and glory. It kind of exposes how self-centered the whole hero-killing business is, and in a way, might have been a commentary on wars. What happens to the people who were slated to fight? How do they deal? He also gets a rude awakening in meeting the demon lord’s daughter. He was a father too, and she really doesn’t seem that bad.

I’m kind of hoping that he convinces her to become a demon lord/lady, so he gets a job again, but I doubt that’s the way the anime will go.
